STRATA AZILAKA

.An easy hike, setting off from Kournas village. The forest is called Azilakas, the Cretan name used for the a variation of oak trees. It is an uncultivated evergreen tree, with its height as a main feature, which can reach 25 metres. You can set off from the village square towards the church of Saint John. Through a concrete and somehow hilly path you get to the yellow-arrow signed creek which sets the entrance to the forest. The circular route will amaze you with the high oak trees, as well as the large variety of, unfortunately inedible, mushrooms. The vegetation is too thick for the sun rays to pass through. The path moves parallel to the stream and gets you back to Saint John church.
